As they were planning and constructing his dream home, Hearst renamed the rocky perch from which it rose “La Cuesta Encantada” – The Enchanted Hill. By 1947, Hearst and Morgan had created an estate of 165 rooms and 127 acres of gardens, terraces, pools and walkways.

Casa del Mar—Spanish for “House of the Sea"—offers breathtaking views of California's pristine Central Coast and the Pacific Ocean. The most formal and elaborately decorated cottage on The Enchanted Hill, Casa del Mar was also where W. R. Hearst spent his last years at the Castle.

The Gothic Suite, W. R. Hearst’s and Marion Davies' private living quarters, occupy the entire third floor of the mansion. Here he displayed artwork and other sacred objects amid the church-like surroundings.
