Celebrate Mother's Day in Style with Tea on the Terrace at Hearst Castle® May 11, 2002

SAN SIMEON, CA - Just in time for Mother's Day, Friends of Hearst Castle presents its annual Tea on the Terrace at Hearst Castle on Saturday, May 11, 2002 from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

The public is invited to join members of Friends of Hearst Castle and their guests for an afternoon of tea and light refreshments, a raffle of hand-picked prizes, and a fashion show that, it is safe to say, is unlike any other offered this Mother's Day. Guests may just feel they have taken a step back into another, perhaps slightly more glamorous, era.

The fashions on view at this unique show are specially-selected examples of what the well-dressed were wearing during the 1930s heyday of Hearst Castle.® Volunteer docents and staff members from the Castle's Living History Program have assembled a special collection of what elegant party-goers might have been wearing following a high-profile Hollywood movie premiere.

Special raffle items have been assembled to complement the afternoon's stylish theme, including a fresh flower arrangement displayed in (of course) a teapot, a "Blue Willow" basket, a children's basket of goodies, lunch for four at the historic Santa Maria Inn, a signed copy of Victoria Kastner's Hearst Castle, The Biography of a Country House, an original piece of jewelry from Adrienne Shivers' Garden Party Collection, and selected reproductions and adaptations from the Hearst Castle Collection.®

While the timing for Tea on the Terrace is perfect to celebrate Mother's Day, all are welcome to attend. Tickets for Tea on the Terrace at Hearst Castle® are $50 per person. Seating is limited, and reservations must be made before April 29 by calling Friends of Hearst Castle, 805-927-2138.
