“Carved Wood: The Sacred and The Secular” Exhibit Opens at Hearst CastleVisitor Center
San Simeon, CA – “Carved Wood: The Sacred and The Secular” opened June 25, 2004 and will run for approximately one year. This exhibit focuses on some of Hearst Castle’s carved wood: furniture, sculpture, decorative objects, architectural elements, even household items. Objects from Casa Grande and each of the three guest houses are displayed.
A number of objects in the exhibit were originally designed for religious use, but were incorporated into furnishing the Castle centuries after their creation. Examples of this include a single choir stall and a pair of altar candlesticks.
